Dr. John R. Lott, Jr.

John R. Lott, Jr., Ph.D. is the author of "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws,"  published by the University of Chicago Press.  This  popular version of the comprehensive study he and David Mustard conducted in 1996 conclusively shows that concealed carry of handguns by responsible citizens reduces crime against individuals.  Concealed carry is empirically shown to be a deterrence.

Dr. Lott visited Kansas City in late July 1998.  I was fortunate to have dinner with him after his hour and a half presentation and question and answer period at the Zenith Boosters meeting.  The next morning, I escorted Dr. Lott to a short interview on WDAF-TV Fox4 for the morning show.  Dr. Lott has it down pat: Concealed carry by responsible citizens saves lives.

Next we breakfasted at Nichol's Lunch (Kansas Citians will know) for an interview by an opinionated reporter from the Kansas City Star.  The reporter, who will remain anonymous, expressed  his cynicism and skepticism repeatedly even when his questions were answered with facts, undisputable facts.  There was nothing published in the Star..
